  • Royal Northern Spring Show – Highland Pony Classes

    The Royal Northern Spring Show takes place on Wednesday 25th February 2026 at the Thainstone Centre, Inverurie.

    This year’s Highland Pony judge is Mrs Sandra Yeaman. The show features HPS Youngstock Qualifier classes, and new for 2026, an HPS Junior Handler Qualifier.

  • Performance Awards Scheme 2026 – Now Open

    The Highland Pony Society Performance Awards Scheme is now open for the 2026 season. This popular programme is free to all HPS members and recognises the achievements of Highland ponies across a wide range of disciplines.

    Whether your pony competes in showing, dressage, cross-country, driving, or any other activity, the Performance Awards scheme is a wonderful way to record and celebrate their versatility.

    Points are awarded for placings at affiliated and unaffiliated events throughout the season. Certificates and rosettes are presented at the AGM.

  • HPS Office Assistant Vacancy

    The Highland Pony Society is looking for an enthusiastic Office Assistant to join our small team at Garbh Allt House, Crieff.

    The role involves general administrative duties including handling membership enquiries, processing registrations, and assisting with the day-to-day running of the Society office.

    Hours: Part-time, Tuesday to Thursday, 10am – 4pm

  • Judges Announced for 2026 Breed Show

    We are pleased to announce the judges for the 2026 Highland Pony Society Breed Show, to be held on Sunday 12th July at Strathallan Castle, Auchterarder.

    • In Hand: Christopher Grant (Northumberland)
    • Ridden: Pat Rennie (Glasgow) & Katherine Bowling-Hartenfield (Lancashire)
    • WHP: Marjorie Grant (Perth)
    • Working Harness: Sylvia Ormiston (Inverness-shire)
    • Driving: Audrey Barron (Angus)
    • Dressage: Tia Blowman (Fife)
    • Young Handlers/Stud Group: Sylvia Ormiston (Inverness-shire)

    Entries will open in May via Entrymaster. The show schedule will also be published in May.

    The show is open exclusively to Highland Pony Society members and offers a full range of classes including HPS Gold Medal presentations, HOYS qualifiers, NPS Scotland Finals qualifiers, and Youngstock qualifiers.

  • Membership Subscription Increase for 2026

    Please be advised that membership subscription rates have been updated for the 2026 season. The Council took the difficult decision to increase fees for the first time in several years to ensure the Society can continue to provide the level of service members expect.

    The new rates, effective from 1st January 2026, are:

    • Full Membership: £35 per annum
    • Joint Membership: £50 per annum
    • Junior Membership (under 18): £15 per annum
    • Overseas Membership: £45 per annum
    • Life Membership: £500

    Renewals can be completed online through the website or by contacting the office. We thank all members for their continued support of the Highland Pony breed.

    Wishing all of our members, friends and highland pony enthusiasts worldwide a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

    Thank you for all your support, enthusiasm and commitment to the Highland Pony and the Society throughout 2025.

    Office Closure: The office will be closed for the holiday break until Monday, January 5th, 2026.

    Note: The elves are still working on some of the registration applications received close to the November deadline – completed paperwork will be distributed shortly!

  • Sally Coutts – Funeral Details

    It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sally Coutts at age 94.

    Sally was a long-standing member and former president of the Highland Pony Society, as well as an accomplished panel judge. Working alongside her late husband, Captain Ben Coutts, she raised ponies under the Woodburn prefix.

    Our sincere condolences go to her family and friends during this difficult time.

    Funeral Service: Saturday, November 15th at 2:00 PM
    Location: Muthill Parish Church, Scotland

    All who wish to celebrate her life are welcome to attend.

  • Judges Study Day – 26th October 2025

    The Highland Pony Society is organizing a professional development session for Panel and Probationer Judges.

    What to Expect

    Morning tea/coffee and a light lunch will be provided. Judges wishing to contribute homemade baking are most welcome! Please bring your own seating.

    Important: All Society panel judges must attend a Judges Study Day at least once every 5 years to maintain their credentials.
