Centenary Conference

The Highland Pony Society held their centenary conference on Tuesday, July 4th at Strathallan Castle.

Presentations & Speakers

The conference featured six expert presentations:

  1. Professor Tim Morris (FRCVS, RBST) – “100 Years of the Highland Pony Society and 50 years of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust: what have we learnt and what’s for the future?”
  2. Andrew McDiarmid (FRCVS, Clyde Veterinary Group) – Discussed common conditions affecting Highland Ponies from a veterinary perspective
  3. Pam Humphreys (Stallion AI Services) – Covered “Advances in Equine Reproductive Technology – Breeding for a Stronger Future”
  4. Dr Andy Dell (Nottingham Trent University) – Presented on “SPARKS flying – Managing rare breeds for a sustainable future,” addressing closed studbook challenges and genetic diversity
  5. Dr Caroline Rutter – Delivered “Queen Victoria, her horse whisperer, the PM’s brother and the Professor: the origins of the Registered Highland Pony”
  6. Juliet Rogers (Moorland Mousie Trust) – Discussed “Conservation grazing with native ponies”
